The much-loved Good Vibes Festival returned bigger and brighter this year as approximately 8,000 festival-goers flocked to scenic The Ranch @ Gohtong Jaya in Genting Highlands for a 2-day international outdoor music festival to remember on 12 and 13 August 2016. The third edition of #GoodVibesFest saw twice as many international and Malaysian acts taking over three stages in verdant Genting Highlands, offering flower-crowned attendees a spectrum of musical tastes and textures. Day one kicked off at the Blue Stage with dream-pop darlings to watch Juno & Hanna setting the mood for the evening. It wasn’t long before the crowd was jolted by raucous Ampangites The Fridays and treated to new music by supergroup Toko Kilat. As evening set in, the crowd thickened along the main stages, buzzing with anticipation for the international acts.Ta-Ku enamoured them all, bringing out friend and collaborator Wafia in the early-evening chill. Next, the audience was treated to The Purity Ring’s lush theatrics, The Temper Trap’s anthemic choruses, and The 1975’s infectious pop hooks, replete with Matt Healy’s signature dance moves. In what was a highlight for many, long-awaited favourites Two Door Cinema Club delivered a tender, emotive set of their best tunes. The dancing continued with producer superstar Mark Ronson, who bookended the night with a flurry of funk, reggaeton and hip-hop, topping it off with his own Grammy hits Uptown Funk and Valerie.
Before anyone could even catch their breath, instrumental rock outfit Mutesite kicked-off Day Two with a bang, followed by the brothers of Jumero, ethereal electronic stylings of +2dB, Froya’s indie-pop magic, space-age rock electronica via Enterprise and crowd pleasers Kyoto Protocol. Next onstage was idiosyncratic chill-trap genius Ryan Hemsworth, smooth R&B songstress Alina Baraz, and Canadian outfit Tokyo Police Club, right before Angus & Julia Stone provided a mesmerising sing-a-long set for the ages. At midnight, Disclosure wrapped up the festivities, playing back-to-back hits like Latch, Holding On and White Noise to a rapturous audience. Meanwhile over at the Electric Fields stage, beatmakers and producers including Indiego & Co, Twinkies and Dangerdisko kept the good times rolling all Friday and Saturday with non-stop electronic music in a house-party atmosphere.
